Q.U.B.E. to be released on 16th December

It has been officially announced (via the Indie Fund website) that Q.U.B.E. will be released on the 16th December 2011. Q.U.B.E. will be available on on Steam, Desura, and Playism. It will be sold for £9.99/$14.99/€10.99.

The release is significant for both Indie Fund and the Computer Games Design at the University of Wales, Newport. For the both Q.U.B.E. is their first game to get a full commercial release.

The game was developed by Dan Da Rocha, Jon Savery and Dave Hall, they built the prototype as part of their undergraduate degree program (graduating in 2009). Then continued to develop it into a full game after their graduation with the help of the Indie Fund.

An interesting fact about Q.U.B.E.‘s development is that it has been developed without a programmer!  The guys have only used UDK (the Unreal Development Kit) and its scripting facilities.

As usual Q.U.B.E. is getting some great press… JoystiqThe Sixth Axis, IndieGames.com, The Witness.netDIY Gamer, Develop Online & DIY Gamer Preview

You can also vote for Q.U.B.E to be IndieDB’s Indie of the Year 2011.

Press Release: Toxic Games announces their first debut title, Q.U.B.E.

PRESS RELEASE

South Wales, UK – 9 th August 2011– Toxic Games, a newly formed small independent developer based in Newport, South Wales founded by former classmates, began development of Q.U.B.E. as a student project in 2009.  All three core members are game designers with no programming expertise. Thanks to the encouragement of academic mentors and industry professionals, and with the help of the Indie Fund for start-ups, Toxic Games went from student hobbyists to independent developers upon graduation from university. Toxic Games plans to release their debut title, Q.U.B.E. with the support of Indie-Fund in late 2011 to early 2012.

Q.U.B.E. is a first-person, singleplayer game that begins in a sterile, white cubic environment. The game presents the player with a series of brain-teasing puzzles, ranging from physics-based challenges and 3D jigsaws to platform-based trials.

With the aid of technologically enhanced gloves, the player manipulates and navigates a deep space training facility packed with cubes. The player can pull red blocks one at a time, extract multiple cubes of yellow all at once, use blue cubes for jumping, and push green cubes around the environment.

Q.U.B.E. has been nominated as a finalist in several game competitions including the Indie Game Challenge, The Escapist Extra Credits Innovation Awards and IndieDB’s Indie Game of the Year award: Best UDK Game.
